Description :

In adults and adolescents over 12 years of age, ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE is indicated:
- for the treatment of nasal and ocular symptoms of seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis,
- for the treatment of symptoms of chronic urticaria (chronic idiopathic urticaria).
Medical advice is recommended for chronic idiopathic urticaria.

Pharmacotherapeutic class:

  • Cetirizine dihydrochloride is the active substance in ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE.
    ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE is an anti-allergy medicine.

Precautions and warnings :

  • Take care with ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE 10 mg, chewable tablet:
    If you have renal insufficiency, ask your doctor for advice, if necessary, you should take a lower dose. The appropriate dosage will be determined by your doctor.
    If you have epilepsy or are at risk of convulsions, ask your doctor for advice.
    No interactions have been described that would have a particular effect when cetirizine (used in normal doses) is taken with alcohol (up to the blood concentration of 0.5 per thousand corresponding to one glass of wine). As with other antihistamines, it is recommended that alcohol be avoided during treatment.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding:

  • Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
    As with other medicines, the use of ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE should be avoided during pregnancy.
    Accidental use during pregnancy is not expected to affect the foetus. However, as a precautionary measure, further treatment should be avoided.
    ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE should not be taken during breast-feeding due to its passage into breast milk.

Driving or operating machinery:

  • Clinical studies have not shown any impairment of alertness, reaction time or ability to drive after administration of ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE at the recommended doses.
    If you are likely to drive a vehicle or operate potentially dangerous tools or machinery, you should not exceed the recommended dose. You should carefully evaluate your response to cetirizine therapy beforehand.
    In some sensitive patients, the concomitant use of alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may result in impaired attention or responsiveness.

Composition:

Notable excipients: Xylitol, sodium,
Active ingredients:
Cetirizine dihydrochloride.
One sucking tablet contains 10 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride.

Other substances: Betadex, povidone, sodium cyclamate, cellulose powder, monosodium citrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, apple flavour HR 290107.

Directions for use:

  • How and when to take ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE
    These instructions should be followed unless your doctor has given you different instructions on how to use ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE.
    Follow these instructions, otherwise ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE may not be completely effective.
    Dosage
    Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age:
    10 mg once daily or 1 tablet.
    Moderate to severe renal impairment:
    In patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, the dose will be reduced to 5 mg once a day and 5 mg once every other day respectively.
    If you think that the effect of ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE is too weak or too strong, consult your doctor.

    Method of administration
    Oral.
    Place the tablet on the tongue and allow it to melt before swallowing.
    Instructions for proper use:
    1. Detach one square from the blister pack along the pre-cut line.
    2. Remove the protective film.
    3. Grasp the tablet.
    4. Place the tablet on the tongue and allow to dissolve.
    The tablet can also be dissolved in a little water before swallowing.
    Duration of treatment
    The duration of treatment depends on the type, duration and your symptoms and is determined by your doctor.

In case of overdose:

  • If you have taken more ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE 10 mg chewable tablet than you should have:
    Contact your doctor if you think you have taken more ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE tablets than you should have. Your doctor will then decide what action, if any, to take.
    In case of overdose, the side effects described below may appear with increased intensity. Undesirable effects such as confusion, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, headache, malaise, dilated pupils, itching, agitation, sedation, drowsiness, stupor, abnormal increase in heart rate, tremor and urinary retention have been reported.

If you miss one or more doses:

  • If you forget to take ALAIRGIX ALLERGY CETIRIZINE 10 mg, chewable tablet:
    Do not take a double dose to make up for the dose you forgot to take.

Conditions of storage :

  • No special storage precautions.

Contraindications:

  • Never take ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE 10 mg, sucking tablet in the following cases:
    - if you have severe kidney disease (severe renal failure with creatinine clearance less than 10 ml-min),
    - if you are allergic to the active substance of ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE or to any of the other components (excipients), hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives (related substances in other medicines).

Possible interactions:

    • If you are taking or have recently taken any other medication, including medication obtained without a prescription, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
      Due to the profile of cetirizine, no interactions with other medications are expected

  • Food intake does not significantly affect the absorption of cetirizine.

Undesirable effects:

Like all medicines, ALAIRGIX ALLERGY CETIRIZINE 10 mg, chewable tablet is likely to have adverse reactions although not everyone is susceptible.
Since marketing, the following adverse reactions have been reported. Their frequency has been defined as: (common: 1 in 100 to 1 in 10 patients, uncommon: 1 in 1000 to 1 in 100, rare: 1 in 10,000 to 1 in 1000, very rare: less than 1 in 10,000).
- Hematologic and lymphatic system disorders:
Very rare: thrombocytopenia (decreased platelets)
- General disorders:
Common: fatigue
- Cardiac disorders:
Rare: tachycardia (rapid heartbeat)
- Eye disorders:
Very rare: accommodation disorders, blurred vision, oculogyric crises (uncontrolled circular movements of the eyes)
- Gastrointestinal disorders:
Common: dry mouth, nausea, diarrhea
Uncommon: abdominal pain.
- General disorders and administration site conditions:
Uncommon: asthenia (extreme tiredness), malaise,
Rare: edema (subcutaneous swelling)
- Immune system disorders:
Rare: allergic reactions, sometimes severe (very rare)
- Hepatobiliary disorders:
Rare: abnormal liver function (increased liver enzymes)
- Investigations:
Rare: weight gain
- Nervous system disorders:
Common: dizziness, headache
Uncommon: paresthesia (abnormal sensation in the skin)
Rare: convulsions, abnormal movements
Very rare: syncope, tremor, dysgeusia (taste alteration)
- Psychiatric disorders:
Common: drowsiness
Uncommon: restlessness
Rare: aggression, confusion, depression, hallucination, insomnia
Very rare: tic
- Kidney and urinary tract disorders:
Very rare: difficulty urinating
- Respiratory conditions:
Common: pharyngitis, rhinitis
- Skin and subcutaneous tissue conditions:
Uncommon: pruritus, rash
Rare: urticaria
Very rare: oedema, fixed erythema pigmentosa.
If you develop any of the above side effects, please inform your doctor. At the first sign of an allergic reaction, stop taking ALAIRGIX ALLERGIE CETIRIZINE. Your doctor will assess the severity of the reaction and decide what action, if any, to take.
