Adult: the usual dosage is 1 to 3 tablespoons per day
Children over 6 years: 1 to 3 teaspoons per day
Children under 6 years: according to medical advice
It can be taken in one or more doses, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach, either 2 hours before or after meals. If taken in the evening, do not go to bed for 2 hours afterwards. Be careful with PARAFFIN OIL GIFRER, drinkable solution) and take into account that the laxative effect may occur during the night.

Contraindications
Never take PARAFFIN OIL GIFRER, drinkable solution in the following cases:
- If you have an allergy to paraffin oil
- If you have obstructive colopathy, given the laxative effect of the drug
- If you have abdominal pain syndrome of undetermined cause and inflammatory (ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease ...)
- Do not use in people who have difficulty swallowing because of the risk of inhalation of liquid paraffin, which causes lipoid pneumonitis.

Special warnings
DO NOT USE FOR A LONG TIME WITHOUT MEDICAL ADVICE.
- The administration of paraffin oil in young children, bedridden patients or those with difficulty swallowing must be cautious as it may cause passage into the bronchial tubes and respiratory problems. In general, do not take this medicine before going to bed.
Occasional constipation:
It may be related to a recent change in lifestyle (travel). The drug may be helpful in short treatment. Any recent constipation unexplained by a change in lifestyle, any constipation accompanied by pain, fever or swelling of the abdomen should be referred to a doctor.
Chronic constipation (long-term constipation):
This can be linked to two causes:
- either a bowel disease that needs to be treated by a doctor,
- or an imbalance in bowel function due to dietary habits and lifestyle.
The treatment includes:
- an increase in the intake of vegetable products (green vegetables, raw vegetables, wholemeal bread, fruit...))
- an increase in the consumption of water and fruit juices
- an increase in physical activity (sport, walking, etc.)
- re-education of the defecation reflex
- sometimes the addition of bran to the diet

Special case of children:
In children, the treatment of constipation is based on healthy lifestyle and dietary measures: in particular, the use of the right amount of water with infant milk powders, a diet rich in plant-based products, the addition of fruit juice.
Regular use of laxatives at a young age can interfere with the normal functioning of the defecation reflex.)
Precautions for use
- This oil must not be heated.
- Prolonged use of paraffin oil is likely to reduce the absorption of certain vitamins.
