Calcidose 500 mg is a medicine presented in sachet dose and containing calcium. It provides calcium and is indicated in case of deficiency, particularly during pregnancy or breastfeeding, but also during growth. Indeed, these situations correspond to an increased need for calcium
Calcidose 500 mg is also used in the adjunctive treatment of osteoporosis: elderly, post-menopausal subject, under corticosteroid therapy and during immobilization, when resuming mobility.
The active substance contained in 1 sachet of 2.5 g is calcium carbonate (1250 mg), which corresponds to 500 mg of elemental calcium.
The other ingredients are sucrose and a citrus flavour.
The citrus flavour is composed of orange, lemon, mandarin essential oils, natural vanilla extracts, vanillin, ionone, acetic, propionic, butyric acid esters, ethyl, propyl, butylic, amyl alcohol esters and maltodextrin.
Calcidose is administered orally: dilute the contents of one sachet in a glass of water and swallow immediately.
The dosage and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor. Strictly comply with his prescription.
As an indication
For adults, the dosage is 1 sachet 2 to 3 times a day (1 to 1.5 g of calcium element per day).
For children over 10 years of age the dosage is 2 sachets per day (1 g of elemental calcium per day).
For children up to 10 years old, the dosage is 1 sachet per day (0.5 g of elemental calcium per day).
Be careful, too much calcium can lead to an overdose, which can be dangerous for the body.
For this reason, in the event of prolonged treatment, and in the event of renal insufficiency, blood and urine tests should be carried out to check the calcium levels.
Be careful not to combine Calcidose with any other medication containing calcium, and to respect the dosage of your treatment
The signs of a possible overdose are nausea, vomiting, intense thirst, constipation.
The use of Calcidose is contraindicated in cases of hypercalcemia, ypercalciuria, especially during prolonged immobilization (treatment should be started in this case when mobility is resumed), or in cases of calcific kidney stones and tissue calcification.
You should not use Calcidose if you are allergic to any of the components of this medicine.
Calcidose should be used with caution in patients with renal insufficiency and sarcoidosis.
This medicine contains sucrose, take it into account in case of diabetes or low sugar diet.
If you are taking digitalis medicines or thiazide diuretics: you must consult your doctor regularly
during the treatment.
In case of treatment with an oral antibiotic of the tetracycline class, it is recommended to respect a three-hour interval between the intake of tetracyclines and calcium. When taking concomitantly with biphosphonates, an interval of 2 hours should be observed.
To avoid any interference, tell your doctor if you are taking drugs such as biphosphonates, cyclins, digitalis, estramustine, thyroid hormones, strontium, zinc, thiazide diuretics. For more information, please consult the package insert.
After medical advice, it is possible to use Calcidose during pregnancy and while breastfeeding.
In case of pregnancy, do not exceed 1500 mg of calcium (3 sachets per day)
