Horse chestnut :

Horse chestnut, the history and identity of a plant with multiple virtues, used for hundreds of years.

Originally from the Balkans (and not India, as its name suggests), the horse chestnut was imported to our region in the 16th century by a French botanist named Charles de l'Ecluse. The horse chestnut has seeds, known as marrons d' Inde (horse chestnuts). Their name derives from their resemblance to chestnuts, but it's important not to confuse them! Horse chestnuts are toxic to humans. Very aesthetic, the horse chestnut has an ornamental role, but that's not all: it also has virtues that have been used by apothecaries since the 18th century.

The many virtues of horse chestnut were discovered as early as 1720, and have been exploited for a variety of purposes ever since. Venous comfort is one of them. Indeed, Horse Chestnut is traditionally recognized for helping to maintain normal circulation, thus promoting venous health. Its circulation-enhancing properties have been the subject of numerous scientific and clinical studies, and are recognized by several health authorities. The benefits of horse chestnut are attributed to its complex composition: coumarin glucosides, aescin, esculin, tannins, essential oils and flavonoids.

Flavonoids are antioxidants present in large quantities in horse chestnut seed and bark. They are also very common in the plant world in general, as they are responsible for plant pigmentation. In particular, they are found in the fruits and vegetables we eat every day.

By combining the action of all its active components, Horse Chestnut helps maintain circulatory health and reduce related discomforts. Flavonoids and horse chestnut can therefore be used in food supplements designed to promote venous comfort.
