Sulfarlem S is an anetholtrithione-based medication that stimulates saliva and tear production. It is indicated for dry eyes and saliva production defects (hyposialia), as well as post-radiotherapy xerostomia. Xerostomia is dry mouth following radiotherapy in the head and neck region to treat certain cancers.
A dry mouth can lead to mouth discomfort, digestive problems, cavities and even fungal infections of the tongue. To best accompany the treatment, we advise you to stay hydrated, stimulate salivation by chewing (e.g. chewing gum or sugar-free lollipops), avoid irritating salty, acidic and alcoholic foods, and humidify the bedroom. Saliva substitutes can be taken in parallel.
