Properties
Flubendazole is a broad spectrum anthelmintic active on ascarids and hookworms in cats.
Indications
Affections with parasites sensitive to flubendazole.
In cats:
- Treatment of digestive nematodes due to :
Toxocara cati
Toxascaris leonina
Uncinaria stenocephala
Ankylostoma tubaeforme
Dosage and method of administration
Orally, 1 tablet per 4 kg of body weight per day, for 2 consecutive days.
The speciality can be administered directly by hand. In case of refusal, the tablet can be placed on the back of the tongue.
Contraindications
Do not administer to kittens under 4 months of age and to animals weighing less than 2 kg.
Undesirable effects
In very rare cases, occasional and transient vomiting and moderate diarrhoea may be observed.
Overdose
No adverse effects have been observed after administration of the product at doses 3 times higher than recommended.
Use in Pregnancy/Lactation
Studies in laboratory animals (rat, rabbit) have not shown any teratogenic or embryotoxic effect of flubendazole at the dose used in therapy. The safety of the product in pregnant and lactating cats has not been demonstrated.
The use of the product in these animals should be subject to an assessment of the benefit / risk ratio by the veterinarian.
